If you have ever walked into any luxury sports watch showroom, it is just not possible for you to miss the gleaming Daytona Cosmograph sitting on the mantel – I am presuming that the showroom is authorized to stock, display and sell Rolex chronometers, of course. There are quite a few competitor watches that strive to equal this particular piece from the Rolex stable, but none comes close enough.
When I bought a Rolex Daytona, I intended to gift it to a young relative who was about to launch his career in the wide world. But after having it for a few days (in the run up to his birthday), I grew so fond of the piece that I decided to keep it for myself! I gave the lad another gift, but I hope he will enjoy this other gift, too.
The Daytona Cosmograph distinguishes itself with its polished stainless steel case which is about 40mm (that's 4 cm) thick. The screw down case back ensures that if you happen to fancy a dive in the water, it will resist water from seeping into your precious device to a depth of about 100 meters. But wait, there's more. If you take a look at the Daytona watch and peer at its crown, you will see three small dots beneath the Rolex logo. They indicate the Triplock system that is in place inside the watch. This system and the screw down pushers further barricade water from coming in, so you can swim under water to your heart's content.
The Daytona Cosmograph dial is a joy to behold. It has such a royal look, that it is difficult to not fall in love with the piece. The markers and the stick hands are in white gold, with the super luminova chemical dabbed on them to make them visible in low lights. The markers appear so exquisitely inlaid over the pure white dial. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and you need to be a connoisseur to appreciate that!
Coming to the Daytona Cosmograph bracelet and clasp, to tell you my frank opinion, they are the best Rolex has ever made thus far. You can easily size the bracelet using the adjustable links, of course, but that is not the point. Look at the solid end-links and the center-links, and then look at the polish on the center links throughout the bracelet. I have handled quite a few watches from Rolex as well as the other companies, but been completely bowled over by the Daytona bracelet. The clasp on the bracelet has a flip lock, which too is much better than even the standard Rolex replica watch clasps. When you hold it in your hand, you can feel its quality and the elaborate craftsmanship that has gone into making it. I really hope that they make it a standard feature on all their watches.
The Daytona Cosmograph is COSC-certified. Its movements are based on 44 jewels, with a bph of 28,800. The Caliber 4130 Daytona deploys a Brequet balance spring, and also has Kif-shock absorption as its strong feature. No wonder, the Daytona Cosmograph is labeled as one amongst the finest watch movements mankind has ever made.
It is quite possible for me to sell my Daytona at a premium, and make a hefty profit. But I really love the watch, and I think it will now pass on as heirloom to my family.
